Wedding invitation postage depends on the finished envelope—not just the card.
For a standard rectangular invitation weighing up to 1 ounce, current First-Class Mail postage is $0.82. Add weight, a square shape, rigidity, or uneven thickness and the price or mail class can change.
Rates below are U.S. retail stamped prices. Always verify your assembled invitation with USPS before mailing the full batch.

Start with the total assembled weight.
Include the envelope, every card, belly bands, vellum, ribbon, seals, and any other insert when you weigh the sample.

The shape check
When an invitation may be nonmachinable.
Square or unusually proportioned
Letter-size mail must meet USPS aspect-ratio rules for machine processing. A square envelope typically falls outside that range.
Rigid or uneven
Thick boards, knots, bulky ribbons, or raised seals can make the piece rigid or change its thickness across the envelope.
Clasps or projecting pieces
Buttons, clasps, strings, and similar closures are among the features that can prevent normal machine processing.
A surcharge does not guarantee that every unusual piece still qualifies as a letter. Very rigid, thick, or irregular mail may be priced differently.
